Botox
Is More Helpful Than Just Smoothing Wrinkles
You are
probably aware that people use Botox to smooth out wrinkles. Well, it
turns out that’s there’s more to Botox than just injections for
wrinkles. Here are a number of other things that Botox is good for:

It
uncrosses eyes when it is used with bupivacaine. It actually doubles
the straightening effect when compared to just using bupivacaine.

Besides
smoothing wrinkles, Botox increases the elasticity of the skin by 30%
for up to four months after the treatment.
-
Injections into the neck can dull the pain and symptoms caused by
constant neck spasms for up to 12 weeks.
-
A
few Botox injections can stop the feelings of having a full bladder
for up to a year.
-
It
significantly reduces the number of migraine days a migraine victim
experiences which improved the overall quality of the person’s life.

A
single injection between the eyebrows resulted in significant and
lasting relief from depression.

It
reduced by 87% the amount of sweat from people who sweat excessively
and it lasted for up to 12 month

It
prevented dangerous heart rhythms after people have had invasive heart
surgery.

Measuring
Your Waist May Not Be A Good Measure Of Your Health
We’ve
been told our waist measurement is important for determining if you are at
risk of cardio metabolic disease. Well, it turns out that your waste size
may not be the best way to go. A study with 1,206 people with
higher-than-average neck size was published in the Journal
of Diabetes Research and it reported that the neck is more accurate
for determining the risk of everything from heart disease, prediabetes and
hypertension than the waist. For a healthy neck size the researchers said
anything under 14.2 inches for women and 16.5 inches for men. So…get the
tape measure out to see what your risk is.

How
I Healed Bursitis In My Hips
About
a year or so ago, I started getting bursitis in my left hip and I got a
cortisone injection in the hip which stopped the pain for around 6 months.
I didn’t want to keep getting cortisone injections and my right hip
started to develop bursitis, too. The pain would trigger from my sleeping
on my sides and towards the morning the pain would wake me up. I went to
my doctor and he said to just sleep on my back. That’s when I also found
out that I had sleep apnea when I slept on my back but not on my side.
Since
I wanted to stay away from cortisone, I decided to look for alternatives.
My wife, Elizabeth, had a prescription for a cream from a compounding
pharmacy that had pain relievers in the formula. By using a cream, this
meant that the drugs were applied locally and were absorbed into the body
where they were needed. I would put the cream on right before going to bed
and I’d sleep on a heating pad set at the warm level. It all worked in
stopping the bursitis pain, but I didn’t want to have to keep using the
drugs in the cream, so I explored further and found another option.
Curcumin
is a natural spice that stops inflammation. I decided to explore this
option and found a product by Terry Naturally called Curamin
that has both curcumin and boswellia in it. Boswellia also stops pain and
inflammation. My pain diminished even further, but it was still there. So,
I did some more research discovered information about a Class IV Laser
that is extremely power for healing. A Class IV Laser penetrates 4 inches
into the skin and reduces inflammation while also stimulating healing and
tissue regeneration.
After
5 treatments which takes about 8 minutes for each side, I had no pain at
all when I was sleeping and the pain has been completely gone about 4
months. So…explore your options when you get a diagnosis from your doc
as there may be other alternative healing options out there for you.

The
Power Of Optimism And Having A Sense Of Purpose In Your Life
A
recent study found that looking at personality traits and having a sense
of purpose can have multiple health benefits. The researchers found that
having a sense of purpose can reduce your odds of suffering a stroke. The
study contained 450 elderly persons . They all had annual physical and
psychological evaluations until their deaths.
The
researchers looked at how they were rated for purpose of life on a
five-point scale. For every one-point increase in their score, they had a
50% reduction in the odds of having a stroke that resulted in visible
damage at autopsy.
Those
who had a strong sense of purpose were 44% less likely to suffered major
brain damage that increased the risk of dementia and disability. Basically
the researchers found that having a purpose in life is protective against
multiple adverse health outcomes in older age such as Alzheimer’s
disease and clinical stroke.
So…if
you are retiring or already have retired, you want to maintain a positive
outlook and do things that still give you a sense of purpose.

Headaches
From Screen Time
Do you get
headaches, blurred vision or dry eyes from looking at your screen for too
long? If so, you are not alone. According to the American Optometric
Association, 58% of Americans suffer from these ailments. What can you do?
The AOA recommends the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes you’re in front
of a screen, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. So…oops,
sorry, I need to look away for 20 seconds, but you keep reading.

The
Benefits From Yoga Increase
While
yoga is considered a low impact exercise, its list of benefits is growing
longer. Traditional yoga includes meditation as a component of it. As an
example of this meditation component of yoga, a study of 29 middle-aged
and older-adults who had mild cognitive impairment were divided into two
groups. One group did brain-training of mental exercises for one hour per
week and they also practiced these exercises 15 minutes a day. The other
group did Kundalini yoga for one hour per week and they were taught
meditation. They also practiced the meditation 15 minutes each day at
home.
After
12 weeks, the yoga group fared slightly better on a memory test by
developing more communication between parts of the brain. Their moods were
also improved.

Other
studies have found that:
20 minutes of yoga improved brain function to a greater degree than 20
minutes of aerobic exercise.
-
Yoga
improves mental health, ADHD and PTSD.
-
It
improves teenagers’ emotional resilience and the ability to manage
anger.
I’ve
been doing yoga daily now for 45 years. Yoga can have tremendous
psychological benefits, so…start stretching!
