Living
Longer By Meditation
Elizabeth
Blackburn is a Nobel Prize winner and president of the Salk Institute who
researches telomeres, which are the caps at the end of each chromosome
that protect your DNA from deteriorating. The better your telomeres are
protected, the less chance you’ll have of getting any of the major
diseases. Stress is one of the things that can wear our telomeres down.
Blackburn
reported that a number of studies found that meditation reduces the impact
of stress, which also helps to increase the length of the person’s
telomeres. So…do your telomeres a favor and start meditating.

The
Problem With Pesticides In Our Food
While
authorities in both the US and the EU insist that the current limits on
the amount pesticides in conventional produce are perfectly safe, they are
leaving out important facts. The pesticide limits that are set are based
on animal studies and the studies only look at the effect of one pesticide
at a time. If you have a meal with 5 different vegetables on it, you could
be ingesting multiple pesticide residues that have never been tested
together. .
There
were three long-term birth cohort studies in the US that looked at the
impact of multiple pesticides on the development of a child’s brain.
These studies suggested that pesticides can have a negative impact on the
child’s brain. Two of the studies found that women’s exposure to
pesticides during pregnancy was associated with negative impacts on the
child’s IQ and neurobehavioral development, such as, developing ADHD.
The third study looked at the child’s brain growth and found that the
gray matter was thinner in children whose mothers had a higher exposure to
pesticides. So…the best way to avoid these problems is to head for the
organic section of your supermarket.

Reducing
Arthritis Pain Without Drugs
If
you’ve got arthritis, you’ve probably tried pain killers and other
drugs to reduce the pain. As an option, there are a number of natural
remedies that you can use to see if you can reduce your pain.
-
Green
tea is rich in polyphenols that suppress the expression of a key gene
involved in arthritis inflammation. Drink 1 or 2 cups a day.
-
Increase
you Vitamin C and D3 as Vitamin C seems to slow the loss of cartilage
due to osteoarthritis while a lack of Vitamin D can speed the
progression of osteoarthritis. By increasing your C and D you may
reduce your risk of worsening your arthritis by 75%. For Vitamin C,
take 500 to 2,000 mg per day and for Vitamin D3, get a blood test done
and then aim to have a level of 40 to 70 ng/ml by taking around 1,000
to 5,000 units of D3 per day. Also, make sure you take 100 mcg of
Vitamin K2 with the D. K2 helps the Vitamin D3 do its job.

Take
Willow bark and Boswellia to reduce inflammation and maintain healthy
joints. Use 240 mg of willow bark and 1,000 mg of boswellia per day.

Grape
skins contain resveratrol which acts as an antioxidant and COX-2
inhibitor. You can eat a cup of white or red grapes per day, drink red
wine or drink purple grape juice.

Have
your joint taped by a physical therapist. One study found that 73% of
the patients with osteoarthritis experienced substantial reductions in
their symptoms in just 3 weeks of therapeutic taping. The benefits
lasted even after the taping was stopped.
The
beauty of using these alternatives is that you’ll know in a short period
of time if they have helped reduce your arthritis pain.

Vitamin
D And It's Ability To Fight Cancer
Do
you get enough sunshine on a daily basis. If you live up North the answer
is no and if you live down South the answer is still no. Up North, in the
winter time, it’s too cold and in the South, residents just don’t
spend much time in the sun. So why is it important to get sunshine as a
way to fight cancer? Recent research found that women with breast cancer
who had the highest levels of Vitamin D were 44% more likely to survive
the cancer. For people with colon cancer, those with the highest levels of
D were 37% more likely to survive their cancer. The figures are similar
for also preventing other cancers from happening – bladder cancer –
25%, melanoma – 54% and lymphoma – 52%.
As
I said above, you need to be getting enough Vitamin D3 into your body to
maintain a 40 to 70 ng/ml level of Vitamin D3.

Using
Essential Oils To Improve ADHD Symptoms
If
your child is diagnosed with ADHD and you’d like to stay away from using
drugs, essential oils may provide you with another option. In case you are
not aware, essential oils are concentrated, aromatic plant extracts that
have been used for thousands of years. Here are some essential oils that
you can use which may help your ADHD child.

Vetiver
oil or cedarwood oil. When children inhaled either oil 3 times a day
for 20 days, they had improved brain wave patterns and behavior and
they also did better in school. The cedarwood improved oxygenation to
the brain cells while the vetiver calmed and balanced the nervous
system while stimulating the circulatory system.

Rosemary
has been shown to increase cognitive performance while improving speed
and accuracy.

Lavender oil has the ability to improve a child’s sleep while
peppermint oil can improve alertness.
With
essential oils, they can be administered by the child just smelling them
directly from the bottle. They can be applied directly to their skin and
you can also use a diffuser.
To make
sure the essential oil doesn’t irritate your skin, apply one drop to
their skin and observe the area for 1 to 2 hours.

Others Is Also Helping Yourself
As
you age, the more you help others the more you lower your risk of disease
and mortality. This is especially true if you have cardiovascular disease.
Volunteering is an important way to lower stress levels. People
over 70 who volunteered for more than 100 hours a year reported better
health than seniors who didn’t volunteer. Volunteering also gave
participants the sense that they were valued and needed.
