The
Bad Kinds Of Fats Are Still In Restaurant Food |
Trans
fatty acids are the bad fats. One recent study linked
trans fats to diabetes and other ailments and suggested
that they might cause up to 228,000 heart attacks.
The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies
suggested in 2002 that “trans fatty acid consumption
be as low as possible.” It said the intake should
be zero. |
|
Since
the FDA has required food manufacturers to list trans
fatty acids on their labels, the manufacturers have
been removing them. However, the FDA has refused to
require restaurants to disclose trans fat content.
Since Americans now get 38 percent of their calories
from restaurant food, that’s a lot of unknown fat
pouring into our bodies. |
|
Can
the fast food chains get the trans fats out of the
foods they offer? Well, it turns out that in Denmark,
where there is a law severely restricting trans fats,
McDonalds has reduced a large meal of chicken nuggets
and French fries down to 0.33 grams of trans fatty
acids whereas in a USA McDonalds, you’d be getting
10.1 grams of trans fats in the same meal. So…maybe
it’s time for us consumers to start pressuring the
FDA to at least get the restaurant industry to tell
us what they are putting in our food. (from an article
by Nicholas D. Kristof). Go to www.fda.gov
if you’d like to inform them of your position on this
issue. |

Gay
Managers Inspire Loyalty And Productivity |
University
of Southern California Business School professor
Kirk Snyder has found that employees of gay white-collar
male managers are happier, more loyal and more productive
than other workers. You can read about these findings
in his book “Queer Eye for the Straight Manager”.
Its another bit of proof that people should be judged
by what they do and not by their sexual orientation.

You
can now avoid the phone company’s charges for making
directory assistance calls. All you have to do is

Organic
Products Are Booming But Government Funding Isn’t |
As
you may be aware, you are finding more and more products
on your grocer’s shelves that are organic. The category
is growing so fast that Stonyhill Farms, an organic
yogurt manufacturer, is even running out of organic
cows to meet the demand. |
|
It
seems the only ones unaware of this trend is Congress.
They just approved an amendment raising the funding
for organic agriculture research from $1.8 million
per year to $5 million. While this sounds like a big
increase, when you compare it to the Department of
Agriculture’s annual $90 billion budget and the $25
billion (not millions) that goes to annual crop subsidies
to farms that depend on chemical farming and to research
in genetically engineered crops, it turns out to be
a paltry amount. |
|
So…in
the coming years, if you can’t find organic products
when you want them, just remember how Washington sets
it priorities. Pop your Congressional and Senatorial
representatives an email – www.house.gov
and www.senate.gov
– if you’d like to make your opinion count. |

Genetically
Engineered Cows Milk Leads To Twins |
A
study recently published in the Journal of Reproductive
Medicine found that a group of women who consumed
milk products from cows given genetically engineered
hormones had a five times greater chance of giving
birth to fraternal twins than a group of vegans who
didn’t consume any milk products. The study found
that the growth hormone used in cows increased ovulations
in the women and that the hormone persisted in the
women’s bodies after it was consumed. Since the FDA
does not require that food manufacturers label genetically
engineered foods, the only way to avoid the bovine
growth hormone is to buy organic milk. And once again,
if you’d like to make your opinion count about the
foods you and your loved ones eat, pop an email to
you-know-who… |

Combinations
Of Food Additives Cause Nerve Cell Damage |
A
two-year study published in the Toxicological
Sciences journal found that food additives
that are safe by themselves are dangerous when consumed
in combination. The researchers exposed mice to
four common food additives (Brilliant Blue, MSG,
Quinoline Yellow and aspartame) and examined the
effects in the brain. The researchers found that,
when combined, the additives interfered with the
nerve signaling systems and actually stopped nerves
from growing. This interference with nerve cell
growth in the brain may be contributing to the epidemic
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD
in kids. So…feeding diet soda, which contains aspartame,
and crackers with processed cheese, which contains
MSG, to your kids may actually be setting them up
to experience learning challenges. |

Going
Green In Buildings Helps Kids In School |
The
concept of ‘going green’ in schools relates to both
the design and the construction materials used in
constructing or remodeling buildings to reduce or
eliminate negative environmental effects inside
the school building and on the occupants (NY State
goes further and also requires the use of environmentally
safe cleaning products). A study published by Turner
Construction Company found that there are significant
educational benefits for the students that result
from making these positive changes. Two of the major
areas of improvement were in better indoor air quality
and in increased in natural lighting.
|
|
Some
of the changes reported by ‘green’ schools are as
follows:
-
74% said it was easier to attract and retain teachers
-
72% said that student absenteeism was reduced
-
71% said that student’s improved their performance
|
|
So…while
the initial cost for all these changes is more, the
long term benefits and energy savings over the life
of the school makes these initial costs insignificant.

Feedback
From A Reader |
Somehow
one of my monthly Teplitz Report readers received
an erroneously sent email message from us confirming
that he had asked to be deleted from the list. It
was fun and gratifying for me to read his response.
He wrote “I never sent a message asking to
be deleted. I LOVE YOUR E-ZINE. It is one of just
a few I read absolutely every month! I just forwarded
the one this morning to about 10 people particularly
praising the melatonin and sodium nitrate info. You
are one of my deepest inspirations…I would be greatly
upset to be removed from your wonderful publication.”
Thanks, Bart. It’s feedback like yours that inspires
me to continue doing these monthly reports! |

Feedback
From A Client |
I
recently spoke to the National Association of Realtors
Association Executives Institute. Here’s the feedback
that I received from Dave Phillips, Dean of the 2006
AE Institute: “Congratulations! You were one of our
top-rated speakers (I received a 4.7 out of possible
5 on my two seminars). Your sessions were well received…As
quoted by the attendee, “I am excited to use what
I learned not only in professional but personal life.” |

Seminars In Virginia Beach In July |
Take
a vacation to Virginia Beach in July and attend
one of my Switched-On Seminars at the same time.
The Switched-On Selling (SOS) and
Switched-On Network Marketing (SONM)
seminars are both on July 7, and the Switched-On
Management seminar is July 11 and 12. For
exact dates and times, go to www.Teplitz.com/switched-main.htm.
You can also become certified to teach these seminars.
By visiting the web address above you’ll see the

on becoming an instructor. |
|
Here’s
what webmaster Serge Gravelle in Largo Florida had
to say about the Switched-On Selling seminar. He attended
a conference for the third time to market his company’s
web services right after taking the SOS seminar. Up
to that point he had a total of zero sales. "The
day after the seminar the results were instantaneous.
We closed 7 contracts, more than we had done during
the preceding 8 months. By the end of the week, we
had 18 signed contracts." |
|
Since
attendance to the SOS and SONM is limited, register
today at
the website. |

Golfers
Attend My Golf Seminars And Have A Shot At $1 Million
Dollars |
I’m
conducting my Switched-On Golf and
Par and Beyond: Secrets To Better Golf seminars
in Chesapeake, Virginia on June 29. At the end of
the day, one attendee, selected at random, will have
the opportunity to take one shot. If they get a hole-in-one,
they will win One Million Dollars! I just conducted
the seminars in Michigan and one of the attendees
said at the end of the day when he went out to the
driving range that he hit 25 shots and each one went
225 yards or more. He said that he’s never, ever done
that before. So you will get to see and experience
immediate changes in your game when you take these
golf seminars. |
|
To
learn more about the seminars and to register go to
www.Teplitz.com/golf.htm.
As you’ll see from the feedback we’ve received, everyone
from pros to novices will improve immediately. (Bring
the family and stay over the July 4th weekend at Virginia
Beach which is just down the road from Chesapeake) |
