REGULAR SOAP VS. ANTIMICROBIAL SOAPS | May 2002 Dr. Teplitz - the "Energy Doctor"! Here is the latest issue of the Teplitz Email Report. Enjoy it. A preliminary study published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine suggests that working outside or living in a sunny climate may reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer. The reason may be due to the production of Vitamin D on the skin from exposure to the sun. There's a different approach for stroke victims to heal. It's using hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which uses a chamber like a dive decompression chamber. The approach is to flood the body and the brain with oxygen. Dr. Julian Whittaker who has used it with many stroke victims has found that the changes border on the miraculous. To locate a facility that offers this treatment go to www.hyperbaric-therapy.com or call 940 564-5600. REGULAR SOAP VS. ANTIMICROBIAL SOAPS Here's some interesting stuff reported in Discover magazine. Ninety-five percent of bacteria found on our hands are under the fingernails. Antimicrobial soaps may help spawn bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Soap by itself is very powerful. The only thing is we need to wash our hands for 15 seconds to wipe out most of the organisms. Within 5 seconds of soap hitting our skin dormant viruses and bacteria like E. Coli gets caught in the soapy water. The soap tears off the outer coating of flu viruses. It will also flush away yeast and staph. Remember it will take 15 seconds for all of this to happen. A little wine may do more than we thought. New research seems to indicate that the key benefit may be coming from the ethanol. It can raise HDL cholesterol levels (which is the good kind). Now it may reduce complications for diabetics by improving the cells' ability to respond to insulin. How about weight loss? The Nurses' Health Study found that non-drinkers were twice as likely to be obese as moderate drinkers were. This result may not apply to men. How about Alzheimer's? An 18-year study found those who drank one alcoholic beverage per day were 40 percent less likely to have poor scores on tests of cognitive function. However, those having more than four drinks a day were 29% more likely to show mental deficits. How about Osteoporosis? A study of 3,200 postmenopausal women found those who drank a drink a day kept three times more bone mass than non-drinkers. So what does all this mean? A drink a day is a very good idea for many reasons. If YOU'RE A WOMAN & YOU DRINK, THEN DO THIS Nurses who had one drink a day had a 24% greater chance of getting breast cancer. However, nurses who also got 600 micrograms of folate per day cut their risk in half. So if you're going to have a drink per day make sure you take a folate supplement.
