BANG ON A DRUM FOR HEALING QUITE A LIFE
LESSON On one major rapid, I got knocked out of the boat. This was a dangerous rapid because there it had a place in which I could get stuck and never get out. Fortunately, my high school swimming skills kicked in and I was able to avoid the danger by just a couple of feet (whew - otherwise, I wouldn't be writing this column). When they pulled me back into the raft, I was exhausted and could barely move; however we had more rapids coming up fast. Now this was actually the part that amazed me. After a couple of deep breaths and about 30 seconds to a minute of rest, I was back paddling again - no adrenaline rush, no after effect shaking, no freaking out. Just doing it. As a result of this experience I have a view life as a raft trip down a wild water river. At times things are calm and placid and at other times we're facing a rapid. So when difficult times hit what do you do? Do things happen in life that knock you out of the boat? Do things happen that you don't like? Do people say things that strike you the wrong way? Do you then swim as hard as you can to get back into the boat or do you just give up and leave? When you get back in the boat of life, do you pick up your paddle again and give it half your energy or do you give it your all? Since we are all individuals taking the ride on this raft called life, what choices are you making? Are you giving 100%? Whatever choice you make, remember to enjoy the ride! FURTHER INPUT ON
LICORICE VITAMIN C FOR
ALLERGIES Another use for Vitamin C relates to Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). People with CHF have arteries that are too constricted. A study published in Medicine and Science in Sports & Exercise reported that if you eat high fat foods after a workout, you're likely to eat more calories than you burned exercising (oops). If you want to eat something then head for complex carbohydrates, such as, fruit, veggies and whole grains.
