A HIGH FAT DIET CAN LEAD TO ALZHEIMERS
A study at Case Western University School of Medicine and University Hospitals of Cleveland showed a high fat diet may lead to a higher incidence of Alzheimer's disease. Just another reason to eat a lower fat diet. 

However, keep in mind there are good fats and bad fats the good ones contain Omega 3 and are what’s called mono-unsaturated fats. Olive and Canola oil are good examples of this type of oil. So read your labels because the right kind of fat has an important protective role in your body. 


SO WHAT'S GREEN TEA DOING
You may have heard that green tea is a cancer fighter. Now we know why. A study reported at the American Society for Cell Biology meeting found there is a compound in green tea called EGCG, which is a powerful antioxidant. What is does is inhibit an enzyme that cancer cells need to grow. This caused those cells to self-destruct. (Not bad for some tea). (Black tea also has EGCG but at a lower concentration). 

So raise your cups up and happy sipping.

WOMEN CAN LOWER HEART DISEASE RATES
The American College of Cardiology has reported a number of things women can do to lower their rates of heart disease. Dr. Richard Pasternak has said "there is compelling evidence from studies and clinical trials that coronary heart disease is largely preventable". 

So here are a number of areas for you to pay attention to: 

  1.  Women who don't smoke lower their risk by two to four times 
  2. Physically active women have a 60 to 75% lower risk. (Just 3 ten-minute sessions per day of moderately intense exercises like walking).
  3. Reducing high levels of stress and depression lower risk
  4. Keeping blood pressure under 140/90 is extremely important
  5. Women with total cholesterol and triglycerides under 200 are less susceptible to disease. (You want your LDL reading to be 160 and your HDL reading to be 45.

SELENIUM CAN CUT CANCER RISE
The beginning research on selenium started in 1969 when Dr. Raymond Shamberger observed that cancer deaths were lower in areas where there was more selenium available in the soil. 

In 1998 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published a study of 33,000 men. The men with the highest selenium rates had one-third less chance of developing prostate cancer. A more recent study showed taking 200 mcg of selenium reduced the cancer rate from prostate cancer by 37%, colon and rectal cancer by 58% and lung cancer by 45%. 

So don't wait, head for your nearest health food store and start taking 200 mcg of selenium per day. Look for a brand that is made from high yeast selenium.

MASSAGE FOR MIGRAINES
A study conducted by the Touch Research Institute found that out of 12 people who were massaged 30 minutes twice per week for 5 weeks sixty percent enjoyed an entire month migraine free as opposed to only 40% of the controls. 

My experience doing Shiatsu Japanese Pressure Massage for almost 30 years is that with Shiatsu you can get rid of a migraine in 5 to 10 minutes. So while regular massage can reduce the frequency of a migraine, Shiatsu can solve the problem when it flares up.
