Steroids
In Emergency Room Treatments Can Be Dangerous |
Researchers
at Eastern Virginia Medical School (which
is in my neck of the woods) compared 100 trauma
patients who received steroids during their
treatment in intensive care with 100 who did
not. The results were startling. While there
are conditions in which the use of steroids
is supported by strong medical evidence, many
people were receiving steroids for conditions
not supported by medical evidence. |
|
Since
steroid drugs suppress the immune system, a
patient’s recovery can be much slower and more
costly. For the 61 of the 100 patients who received
steroids for a questionable application, the
added costs of extra days in intensive care
and on the ventilator amounted to $700,000.
So…if you or a loved one must go into the emergency
room, ask the doctor if he or she is planning
to use steroids in the treatment and, if so,
are there are good medical trials supporting
that application. If not…ask for a different
course of treatment. |

An
Alternative To Drugs For The Treatment Asthma |
Since
I’m on the subject of steroids, in Prevention
magazine, there was a report on a study conducted
by American and Chinese doctors involving
steroids and Chinese herbs. In the blind study,
91asthma suffers were given daily doses of
either a herbal combination of reishi mushrooms,
licorice and sophora root or the steroid prednisone.
After a month, symptoms such as wheezing and
shortness of breath in both groups were reduced
by more than half. The difference was that
only 5% of the herb takers experienced side
effects whereas 15% of the steroid users had
side-effects and this doesn’t include the
longer term known negative side-effects of
prednisone. So…if you have asthma, ask your
doctor to investigate the herbal blend used
in this study. |

Special
Emergency Light To Put Over Your Door |
It’s
late at night and you have to call the paramedics
for an emergency at your house. When they
finally arrive, they mention that they had
trouble locating your house number. Wouldn’t
it be great to have an emergency light on
your door that flashes so that the paramedics
could see exactly where to go? Well, there
is such a light now and it was recently invented
by Robert Happer, Jr. who lives in Chesapeake
Virginia (also in my neck of the woods). You
can go onto www.theemergencylight.com
and get one for only $19.95. Its a good deal
that could save a life. |

Oops,
Again Cell Phones |
In
the last issue, I told of having been informed
by a reader that cell phone numbers are not
being released to telemarketers, so I wrote
the Oops apologizing for having given you the
wrong information. Well, I thought that was
it until I received an email from another reader,
Christine Magee who has a PI/skip tracing business.
She said there are, in fact, two sites she uses
to find cell phone number for a charge. So it
turns out after all, that your cell phone number
can be found if someone wants to pay for it. |

Chronic
Migraines Use CoQ10 |
A
study published in Neurology reported
on the use of CoQ10 in reducing the frequency
of migraines. In this blind study, the researchers
gave 21 migraine sufferers either100 mg of CoQ10
three times a day or a placebo. At the end of
three months, 47.6% of the the participants
taking the CoQ10 experienced at least a 50%
reduction in frequency of their migraines compared
to a 14.4% reduction for the placebo group.
So…if you get migraines, give CoQ10 a try for
three months and see what happens. |

Use
Yoga To Slow Weight Gains |
While
the average American adult gains a pound a
year, doing yoga at least 30 minutes a week
may slow that increase. A survey tracked 15,500
adults, aged 45 to 55. It found that people
who did yoga for 4 years gained 30% less weight.
Since yoga does not burn a lot of calories,
it is probably the reduction of stress that
accounted for the reduction of weight gain. |

Zits
As A Kid May Reduce Heart Disease |
Who
would have thought there could have been a
benefit to having zits as a kid. Researchers
in the UK tracked 10,000 male college students
for 30 years and found that those who suffered
from a severe breakout of acne as teenagers
were a third less likely to die from coronary
heart disease. It appears that there is a
hormone called androgens, which is involved
in the formation of acne that may help prevent
a person’s arteries from narrowing later in
life. So…it’s nice to know that, even though
my vanity was suffering terribly as a kid,
I didn’t suffer in vain. There was a benefit
to having acne. |

How
Important Is Nature |
A
British survey of 2000 adults reported that
84% of the participants felt instantly relaxed
when they were in nature. Forty-two percent
preferred gazing at the sea, 33% chose a stroll
in the park while 14% found relaxation by listening
to birds singing. So…head to the hills and valleys
where nature can still be found and RELAX. |
|
Protect
Your Joints |
Researchers
at the 10th World Congress on Osteoarthritis
reported on a study of 1,258 people. The study
compared a group who used a combination of glucosamine
and chondroitin to a group that did not. The
researchers reported that participants who had
mild pain received only modest help. However
79% of those with severe pain reported relief.
Of those who took just glucosamine, 66% reported
pain relief and for just chondroitin it was
61%. Those who took the placebo had 54% relief.
|
|
Another
study compared people with osterarthritic knees
who took 1,500 mg a day of glucosamine with
a group taking 3,000 mg a day of Tylenol. This
study found that the group taking glucosamine
felt significantly better and had greater relief
from pain than either the Tylenol or the placebo
groups. |
|
So…based
on the results of these two studies, I would
suggest you take a combination of glucosamine
and chondroitin. Better pain relief the drug
free way! |
|
Chalk
Up Another Benefit To Drinking Tea |
A
study published in the Archives of Internal
Medicine tracked 61,000 Swedish women ages
40-76 for 15 years. Those who reported drinking
two or cups of tea a day were 46% less likely
to develop ovarian cancer than women who drank
no tea. Drinking less than two cups a day helped,
but it was to a lesser degree. Most of the women
were drinking black tea in this study. The researchers
believe that the polyphenols in the tea (they’re
in green tea also) are blocking damage to cells
that can lead to cancer. |

Feedback
From One Of My Switched-On Seminar Instructors |
Danny
McLane is an Instructor of my Switched-On Selling
(SOS) and Switched-On Network Marketing (SONM)
Seminars in the Chicago Area. He recently emailed
me with some feedback on the impact of the seminars.
Here’s what Danny said: “I’ve heard back from
Jeff who attended my last Switched-On Network
Marketing seminar and he said at week five,
his sales were triple his pre-course volume.
I also talked with Billy who took Switched-on
Selling. He sold more boats in one day (7 sales)
than he averaged in the two weeks prior to the
class when he sold a total of only 5.” |
|
Pretty
amazing results from just attending a one-day
seminar, So…you have your last chance to register
for these seminars coming up in Ontario California
on March 7 for SOS and SONM. You can also take
the Switched-On Management seminar on March
5 and 6. Find info at www.Teplitz.com/switched-main.htm. |
