Happiness Is More Than
Money
Prevention Magazine reported that the buying power of Americans
had doubled, however the number of very happy people remains at
the 1957 level of just one in three. This means we need to still
look beyond income levels and what we can buy to achieve happiness.
You might want to ask yourself some questions - Are you working
at what you enjoy doing? Do you take enough time with family and
friends? Are you taking vacation time and doing hobbies that you
enjoy? Are you doing volunteer work for an organization that supports
your values? Do you have a personal relationship that brings you
joy?
If you haven't answered these questions with a lot of yeses, then
you might want to reevaluate what you are doing to create joy in
your life.

Speaking Of Satisfaction
In Your Life...
A survey of 336 entrepreneurs by Ball State University found that
business owners who exercised daily were 14% more likely to have
reached their income goals and 10% more likely to feel personal
satisfaction at work. People who ran and lifted weights were 3 to
4% more likely to hit sales targets and feel content.
While this study was of entrepreneurs, everyone can have more satisfaction
at work just by adding some exercise to their lives. In other words,
it may really pay to exercise!

Massage Your Way Out
Of Back Pain
Prevention Magazine reported that researchers at Seattle's Center
for Health Studies compared three different therapies with people
who had persistent back pain. The therapies were massage therapy,
acupuncture and self-care. The best approach was massage which cut
the need for painkillers by 36%. While the massage techniques compared
included Swedish, deep-tissue, Shiatsu, and neuromuscular, the effects
were all similar.
So...if you can't stop your back pain, get a certified massage
therapist to do some rubbing on your back. A little rubbing seems
to go a long way towards pain relief. You might also consider getting

Another Way To Keep
Bugs Away
Reader Roselyn Elered wrote to me about drinking George's Aloe Vera

How Native Cultures
Healing Works
This idea of how native cultures heal comes from Greg Braden. In
his book, The God Code, Braden says that native peoples around the
world have a common understanding of one of the ways that healing
of the body and the mind occur and that's through the use of sound.
Native cultures hold the idea that "life" has an inherent
blueprint of wellness, one that is always present, even when it
appears that chaos in the form of disease has replaced order. Through
the very precise use of chanting, drums, rattles, chimes, gongs,
tones, and songs by these cultures, the subtle life patterns of
the individual that is being "healed" are disrupted and
thrown into chaos. When the sound stops, because wellness is the
blueprint of life, the healthy patterns are able to find one another
and can reestablish themselves. As the disease has no blueprint,
it cannot "find itself" and reassemble. It simply disappears
and the result is that the person is "healed."
To me this is a fascinating way of understanding a concept that
is thousands of years old. This doesn't mean we forgo 21st Century
Medicine, but it gives a better understanding of traditional approaches
to healing.

Teens Having Sex Is
Still The Reality
A study of 12,000 adolescents by researchers at Columbia and Yale
Universities found that 88% of teens who had pledged to remain virgins
until marriage broke their word and had premarital sex anyway. This
study also found that these teens were less likely to use condoms,
were just as likely to contract sexually transmitted diseases and
were less likely to know they were infected than a comparison group
of other teens.
To me it's fine to teach abstinence; however, to not teach other
methods and approaches is leaving a lot of kids vulnerable to disease
and pregnancy.

Moving Things Just Using
The Mind
In a study published in the Journal of Neural Engineering researchers
placed electrodes on the surface of the brain of four patients.
Just by using their minds they were able to control a video game.
The volunteers simply thought the word "move" and they
were able to play the game. Learning this took only minutes and
they achieved between 74% and 100% accuracy with one person hitting
33 out of 33 targets.
So...this is more reason to keep those positive thoughts coming
because they do have an impact on how you feel and function.

Solve Problems By Sleeping
On Them
Yes, you can just go to sleep and solve your problems. In a study
published in Nature researchers taught volunteers two rules to solve
a number of puzzles. After they were told the instructions, one
group slept for eight hours while the other group was kept awake.
A third group was instructed in the morning and then answered the
puzzles at the end of the day.
The group that slept eight hours came up with more than twice as
many alternative ways to solve the puzzles more quickly than the
other two groups.
So...if you have something on your mind, let it stay there and
get a good night's sleep.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
and Fibromyalgia Linked To Virus
Researchers reported in the Journal of Medical Virology that they
found traces of a virus in the skeletal muscles of people with chronic
fatigue and fibromyalgia. They found no traces in healthy people.
The researchers believe that a persistent infection caused by the
virus may explain these conditions.
Since drugs don't work on viruses, you'll need to look at herbal
