Using
Melatonin To Stop Loss Of Vision |
|
Macular
Degeneration (AMD) affects nearly 2 million
Americans and is the leading cause of blindness
for those over 60. If you have been diagnosed
with AMD, you now have an option to explore.
Melatonin has been shown to protect retinal
cells from damage. In a 2005 study, researchers
gave 100 patients with AMD 3 mg of melatonin
at bedtime for three to six months. The researchers
found that the visual acuity in most of the
patients remained stable and that there was
far less retinal deterioration than expected. |
|
Since
melatonin can also help you sleep better at
night - even if it doesn’t work to stop AMD
- you’ll have a better night’s sleep.

Foods
Losing Their Taste? |
If
you are finding that your foods seem tasteless
- and this could affect your desire to eat
- you may find that zinc supplements could
solve the problem. A study in Germany found
that fifty percent of the subjects who took
a 20 mg tablet of elemental zinc gluconate
per day reported improvement in their ability
to taste food. Clinical tests confirmed this
improvement. As an added benefit, the people
taking zinc also showed less sign of severe
depression. |
|
So…if
foods are losing their desirability for you,
try zinc tablets. |

Stopping
Asthma In Its Tracks |
Recent
research has found that magnesium sulfate, when
given intravenously, can stop an asthma attack.
Most Emergency Room doctors are aware of this
therapy and even accept its efficacy. Despite
this awareness, it is used in only 2.5% of the
Emergency Room asthma cases. If you have an
asthma emergency and have to go to the ER, ask
for a magnesium sulfate IV right away. |
|
You
can even inhale magnesium. When used alone or
with an asthma drug, magnesium has been shown
to improve pulmonary function and reduce hospital
admissions in patients suffering with asthma
attacks. |
|
So…as
a safeguard, if you have asthma, take at least
1000 mg of supplemental magnesium per day. Be
aware that high doses can cause diarrhea in
some people and if you have kidney disease talk
to your doctor first. |

To
Multitask or Not To Multitask |
With
our cell phones, computers, MP3 players and
IPods, many of us are multitasking all the time….
And we think we can do it successfully. Well,
that is not what the latest research is showing.
A study by the National Academy of Sciences
has found that while you can learn while you
are distracted, multi-tasking changes how you
learn and how well you can use the knowledge
that you’ve learned. |
|
The
researchers found that when participants in
the study were focused, they used one part of
the brain. When they were doing several tasks
at the same time, this multitasking caused another
part of the brain to activate. Use of this part
of the brain resulted in a reduction of participant’s
knowledge about the task during a follow-up
session. The researchers did find, however,
that music can help learning because it made
the participants happier. |
|
I
have found that playing Steven Halpern’s subliminal
music CD on Accelerated Learning, Enhancing
Success or Enhancing Creativity increases effectiveness
and creativity. For information on ordering
these CDs for your kids or yourself, visit www.teplitz.com/book_epn_cart.htm

Consumer
Demand Working To Eliminate Bovine Growth Hormone |
Due
to increased consumer demand, Wal-Mart and
Dean Foods, the largest retailer and distributor
of milk and dairy products have begun pressing
for the elimination of bovine growth hormone
(rBGH) from their products. This synthetic
hormone is designed to make dairy cows produce
more milk. The hormone has already been banned
in Europe and Canada because of its links
to increased risk for cancer and antibiotic
resistance. Starbucks, however, is one of
the retailers that still allows this hormone
in the milk products that they serve. So…next
time you go to Starbucks, ask them to get
with it and eliminate rBGH from their milk. |

Why
Employees Leave |
A
study reported by Towers Perrin Global Workforce
Study found that the primary reasons employees
stay at companies, are as follows:
|
|
1.
Managers understand what motivates them
2. Challenging work
3. Career advancement
4. Visibility, honesty, consistency of their
managers
5. Interest in employee |
|
Compensation
and benefits are often lower on the list of
reasons as to why people leave. According to
Robert Half International employee data, the
reasons people leave are typically due to management,
work environment and/or the actions of a direct
supervisor. |
|
The
Sirota Survey Intelligence reports that employees
who that feel their manager does not respect
them are 3 times more likely to leave their
employer over the next 2 years than those who
feel respected. |
|
So…to
me, this means that managers are a significant
key to creating a successful employee. Are you
making sure that your managers are switched
on for performing at their highest levels of
effectiveness? Explore the power of my Switched-On
Management Seminar as a crucial step in training
of your managers. For more information about
