Experimental Research, found that the herb,
kudzu, which grows abundantly in Southeastern
states, may be effective as a means of reducing
alcohol consumption. Subjects in the study who
regularly consumed 3 to 4 drinks per day were
given either kudzu or a placebo for seven days.
When they were subsequently given the opportunity
to drink as much beer as they wanted, the subjects
drank an average of 1.8 beers as compared to
3.5 beers for the controls. The subjects both
increased the time it took to consume their
beer and they decreased the amount taken with

biopsies are used in the diagnosis of breast
cancer. However, according to Dr. Julian Whitaker,
the safety or efficacy of needle biopsy has
never been scientifically confirmed. To conduct
a needle biopsy, the physician must pierce
the encapsulated tumor in order to obtain
samples for testing. In a study conducted
by the John Wayne Cancer Institute, researchers
found that women who had undergone a needle
biopsy were 50% more likely to have the cancer
from their breast tumor spread to the lymph
node adjacent to the tumor. The researchers
stated that the probable cause of the metastasis
was “the mechanical disruption of the tumor
                                    by the needle.” |

are safer, non-invasive alternatives to needle
biopsy. One alternative is Thermography. This
uses digital imaging to measure temperature
variations in the body. This sensitive screening
tool can often detect tumors earlier than other
diagnostic tests. You can also use CT scans,
MRIs, PET scans and ultrasound. For more information

a crisis, our instincts can be our undoing.
Research shows that, when we are calm, our
brains require 8 to 10 seconds to process
each novel piece of complex information. The
greater our levels of stress, the more slowly
our brains’ processing time. When in a crisis
hits, our brains will actually move into low
gear just at the time when we need to moving
faster. In response to a disaster, many people
will often say to themselves “This can’t be
possibly happening to me.” Before deciding
what to do, they will check with four or more

a disaster, 10 to 15% of the effected people
will remain calm and act quickly and efficiently
whereas 15% will freak out. The vast majority,
however, will do very little; they are stunned
and bewildered. While we have a flight or fight
survival response that can get triggered in
emergencies, there is also a freeze response.
Freezing is what happens to a deer when caught
in the headlights. The deer freezes and it gets
hit by the car. When a disaster occurs, people
who are stunned are actually experiencing the
freeze part of the survival mechanism. |

                                According
to Mac McLean, who has been studying plane
evacuations for 16 years at the FAA’s Civil
Aerospace Medical Institute, there is a way
to override this freeze instinct and that’s
by training and by thinking about what you
would do in a disaster situation. A mental
plan will give your brain a road map to follow
when a disaster occurs so you won’t freeze,
and you will, instead, move to flee. So…think
about it before hand, so you are ready to
                                    act if the necessity arises.

                                Women
are up to eight times more likely as men to
blow out their knees when playing tennis,
skiing or dancing. It turns out that the ACL
ligament is weaker in women during the first
half of the monthly menstrual cycle. Researchers
at the University of Vermont found that the
risk of injury is three times higher during
                                    menstruation and the following week.

protect themselves and their knees, women can
do specific exercises, such as, lunges and leg-raises
to improve balance and to strengthen the muscles
surrounding the ACL ligament to take some of
the stress off this important ligament. |
