Shhh…There’s A Secret About The Secret |
You may have heard about the DVD, The Secret, or seen it already. Well, I just found out because of the massive publicity generated by appearances on Oprah, Larry King Live and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, demand for the course is staggering. |
The teachers of "The Secret" have a link to an online course that is going to go on weekly for the next 7 weeks. Normally they charge for this, but they are offering free registration for a limited time to celebrate being on Oprah. I thought you might be interested in signing up. |
It's not something you have to physically be online for at a certain time... you can download the 'lesson' in video, print it to your computer or listen from a link. Interested? Join ASAP, as the course is only being offered for free for a limited time. |
Join by clicking on the link below or copy and paste it into your browser address bar.

There Is Now Proof That It Really Is Better To Give Than To Receive |
According to researchers at the National Institutes of Health, there is now proof that giving has a positive affect on our brains. The researchers used MRIs to monitor brain activity as 19 subjects made decisions to give or not to give to a variety of causes. When the subjects gave to charitable groups, they activated two areas of the brain that then work together. One part is related to reward reinforcement which is also activated by sex, drugs and money. The other part influences social attachments, trust and economic interactions. |
If the subjects opposed a charitable group’s purpose, then the part of the brain activated was linked to anger and moral disgust. |
So…giving to groups that you believe in very positively stimulates your brain. By the way, I wonder how much stimulation Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet get when they give away billions and billions of dollars? Reported by Robert Franklin, McClatchy News Service |

Avoiding Getting Infected By the Super Bugs Out There |
Super bugs are running rampant in hospitals. Current antibiotics are useless against many of them. However, there are a number of steps you can take to protect yourself or a loved one when a hospital visit is required: |
· Wash your hands frequently. Tell doctors, nurses and aides to wash their hands before they can touch you.
· If you are a smoker, you are more susceptible to infection, so attempt to quit before going in for surgery.
· For several days before surgery use 4 percent chlorhexidine antibiotic when you wash yourself in the shower.
· Ask your doctor for a nasal swab test for MRSA super bugs to make sure you don’t already have the super bug in your system.
· Take antibiotics before surgery.
· Don’t allow the doctor to shave the surgical site as tiny cuts from the razor can get infected. Have the doctor use hair clippers instead.
· And, absolutely, no visitors who are sick. They need to be in bed as well. Also, ask the doctor to limit the number of aides and other medical professionals who can access your room.
· If you have an IV or a catheter that becomes loose or damaged, have a nurse fix it or change it immediately. Also, keep the site clean and dry.
Finally, if you can’t speak, assign a family member or friend to be your advocate.

Take Fish Oil to Cut The Risk Of Age-Related Macular Degeneration |
Researchers reported in the Archives of Ophthalmology that fish oil can help us from losing our vision. In this study, scientists reviewed results of the Blue Mountain’s Eye Study which tracked 3,654 people. Participants completed a food frequency questionnaire and were re-examined after five years. Researchers found that those who ate three or more portions of fish per week experienced a 70% reduction in the risk of developing Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Those who ate fish once a week had a 40% reduction in risk. So…do I smell fish cooking in the kitchen? |

New Hope for Parkinson’s – Stem Cells Reverse Parkinson’s in Rats |
A study by Steven Goldman, which was detailed in the journal Nature Medicine, reported that injecting neurons derived from human embryonic stem cells into rats suffering from Parkinson’s-like symptoms allowed the animals to regain movement. Up to 80% of the stem cells began functioning like dopamine-producing neurons. While benign tumors formed around the injection site, Goldman thinks it was caused by neural cells that did not transform into neurons. He is aiming to eliminate this reaction by injecting only neural cells that will become neurons. |

Researchers May Have Found Where Intelligence Is Located |
Scientists from the National Institute of Mental Health found a significant correlation between the brain’s cortex thickening with the approach of adolescence and its thinning again and the ability to do complex reasoning. The researchers found that smarter children experienced the cortex growing more quickly and thinning more quickly. With children of average intelligence, certain parts of the cortex showed steady thinning right from the beginning of adolescence. However, researchers are not sure, at this point, how much of this is due to heredity and how much is due to the environment. So…even if we don’t know the answer at this point, I’d suggest you give your kids a lot of mental stimulation before the start of adolescence so you can give them the best opportunity to raise their IQ. |

Having My 60th Birthday |
That’s right, on March 19 I get to celebrate my 60th birthday. As with everyone else, life goes zipping by, so when you stop and realize you’re 60, you wonder where it went. Fortunately, I know. I spent it speaking, writing, creating videos and CDs; and helping others improve their lives, even if it was just a little. It’s been an honor to be of service to others and I will continue to do so. Actually, I’m viewing 60 as just the beginning of a very exciting time in my life! |
