Hi <$firstname$>, |
Keeping The TV Off May
Lead To More Happiness
Late last year University of Maryland researchers
published an analysis concerning what makes us happy and unhappy
in the journal Social Indicators Research. Some of the
activities reported by very happy people were spending time
socializing, going to church and reading newspapers. Watching TV
didn’t make the activity list of happy people. Instead, it made
the list of activities of unhappy people. Unhappy people did it
more!
So…if you’re
a heavy TV watcher, make sure you engage in more of the
happiness activities.

Options For Stopping
Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease is a
debilitating affliction that causes tremors in the body, which
can make it impossible to get around. According to Dr. Julian
Whitaker, his clinic has been having great success for years
using intravenous (IV) glutathione and hyperbaric oxygen therapy
(HBOT). By using both therapies, many of his patients, after a
few treatments, go from needing a walker or cane to being able
to walk without aid.
It turns out
that Parkinson’s sufferers have dangerously low levels of
glutathione in parts of the brain. While oral glutathione cannot
get into the brain, intravenous glutathione can.
Whitaker also
uses HBOT because it floods the brain with oxygen which slows
neuronal degeneration, mobilizes rejuvenating stem cells and
enhances the growth of new blood vessels in damaged areas.
To learn more
about IV Glutathione, go to
www.glutathioneexperts.com and for HBOT go to

How Much Aspirin Should You Take As A Preventative
It’s now recognized by doctors that daily low
doses of aspirin can be safe and effective for most people to
reduce the likelihood of heart attack and stroke. Since the
recommended dosage ranges from 81 mg to 325 mg per day, it’s
important to know the most effective dose for you to take. If
you take a dose too low for you, it may not give you the
protective benefits, while a too-high dose can lead to side
effects such as stomach ulcers.
Well,
now you can have a medical test done that will tell you what
your dose needs to be. According to Dr. Julian Whitaker, this
test, performed by AspirinWorks measures your urine for a
chemical which is a metabolite of thromboxane. Thromboxane is
the target of aspirin. Knowing your level of this chemical helps
you determine your proper dose of aspirin. For information on
this test, go to
www.aspirinworks.com.

Using A Dog’s Nose For
The Good Of The Environment
Many of you are probably aware of dogs being trained to sniff
out drugs, bombs and people trapped in rubble from a disaster.
Well, now dogs are being trained to help the environment. As an
example, there is a threatened plant in Oregon’s Willamette
Valley called Kincaid’s lupine which is key to the survival of
an endangered butterfly species that lays its eggs on the leaves
of the lupine. Since they are endangered, these plants are hard
to find.
So here come
the dogs. Ecologists at the Nature Conservancy have trained a
dog to sniff out the plant, even when its flowers have long
since withered. This ability of the dogs to find these plants
will allow specific and systematic protections to be put into
place. The dogs are also finding invasive species and even
bobcats in New Jersey. So… this is one time you can say things
are going to the dogs and really mean it! |

Training The Brain To
Treat Depression
A professor at Northwestern University, Elsa Telser Baehr, has
successfully treated hundreds of patients with neurofeeedback to
beat depression. Baehr trains the patient to alter their own
moods by manipulating their brain waves. Only 25% of depressed
patients are helped by drugs and psychotherapy within a year
versus the 75 to 80 percent Baehr helps (many actually begin to
feel improvement immediately).
Baehr is
successful because she has been able to discern how the brain
waves of a depressed person differ from those of a contented
person who has a healthy sense of well-being. Over a period of
repeated sessions, the patient changes his/her thinking
patterns, which brings about lasting changes in the person’s
mood and outlook. Her data shows that the retraining holds for
5, 10 and 15 years after treatment.
Just by
having a person think of happy or sad thoughts resulted in 70%
of the subjects showing changes in brain waves. These brain wave
changes then altered emotions and moods.
Neurofeedback
also works for other conditions such as ADHD, hypertension, head
injuries and anxiety disorders. So…if you go for therapy and
your therapist only wants to talk and write a prescription for a
drug, it may be time to see if you can find someone in your area
that does neurofeedback.

Speaking Of Therapy –
The Phone Can Keep You Connected
When you are depressed, it can be difficult to feel like doing
anything including going to a therapist. Well, now you can stay
at home and pick up the phone! Researchers from Feinberg School
of Medicine found that more than 90% of patients who received
telephone psychotherapy continued with it, while nearly 50% of
those doing face-to-face visits had dropped out. The research
also shows that the results from telephone therapy are similar
to face-to-face therapy. The study’s author finds that the
telephone allows the therapists to reach out to the patient! |

Lower Costs For
Prescription Drugs
I just received a postcard for major savings in prescription
drugs that you could order. The most interesting thing to me
about this is that it’s being offered through a vitamin company
called Swanson. The examples of savings include Lipitor which
regularly retails for $321 and is being offered by Swanson for
$146. If you want to check them out you can call 888-744-8947.
If you mention Swanson, you’ll receive an additional $10 off
your order. If you decide to use them, let me know what you
think. |

Harnessing The Power Of
The Sun Through Plants
We have the most powerful energy producer on the planet right in
front of us. It’s plants! In his book, Eating the Sun: How
Plants Power the Planet, Oliver Morton points out the power
of chlorophyll in plants. If you think back to your high school
biology days, you may remember that chlorophyll takes sunlight
and carbon dioxide and turns it into food for the plant and then
“exhales” oxygen.
What you might
not know is that these chlorophyll molecules don’t just capture
the sun’s energy, they also concentrate it. In fact, they are
far more efficient at using the energy of the sun than the sun
is at making it. Would you believe 100,000 times more efficient?
Well, according to Morton, it’s true.
So…just
imagine if scientists change their focus from making fuel from
corn to duplicating the mechanism of the cell of a leaf.
Something so fragile that is also so powerful! |

The Impact Of Sunlight
On Hospital Patients
Speaking of sunlight, a study published in Psychosomatic
Medicine (2005) compared patients healing from spinal
surgery who were in a sunny room to those who were in a dimly
lit room. The lighter room had 46% more sunlight per day.
Patients in
the lighter room needed 28 percent fewer drugs which reduced
costs from medications by 21 percent. Those patients also had
lower stress levels than patients in the dimmer rooms.
Since the
full spectrum fluorescent lighting that I talk about simulates
the wavelength of sunlight, and with all the experience our
clients have had with it over the years, I would expect similar
results in comparing the tubes to being in a sunnier room. |
