Using Natural Pesticides Instead Of Chemicals
With all the chemicals in our homes that have the potential of
affecting our health, I thought you would find it valuable to
know of some natural pest control options. These appear to be
safer than commercial pesticides.
Here they are:
Ants –
sprinkle cinnamon, bay leaves, cayenne pepper or baby powder in
problem areas and along baseboards and windowsills.
Cockroaches
– Sprinkle equal parts of baking soda and confectioners’ sugar
in problem areas.
Mice – Place
cotton dipped in peppermint oil near problem areas. Used kitty
litter can also be used.
Mosquitoes –
Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water
placed on your deck or balcony or dab lavender oil on the wrists
and elbows. You can also take 100 mg of Vitamin B1 every 6 to 8
hours when you are going to be outside. Also try:
Listerine Mouthwash, dab around door frame and mosquitoes won't
enter!
Flies –
Small sachets of crushed mint placed around the house will
discourage flies. A potted sweet basil plant will also work.

Concerned About Drugs And Herb Reactions?
With more and more people using herbs in the healing process and
as a way to stay healthy in the first place, you need to become
aware that some herbs and drugs can have the potential for
negative interactions. Just because something is natural doesn’t
always mean it’s sage.
There’s now
a website you can go to and find out if the herbs you are taking
are ok with the drugs you are using. Go to

Battle The
Food Scares From Contaminated Tomatoes, Spinach, etc.
Washing your fruits and veggies may not be enough to rid it of
some of the disease-causing bacteria like Salmonella and E.
coli. According to Dr. Mercola there is a better option–soaking
the food in water saturated with ozone. It turns out that ozone
is a very potent oxidizer in that it both kills the microbes in
the food and it will also break down the pesticides that are on
the outside of the fruits and vegetables. He recommends the
Lotus Sanitizing System which can be purchased at Amazon for a
little over $100.
Wireless Signals Turn Off Medical
Equipment
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical
Association reported that wireless systems used in many
hospitals to track the location of medical equipment in the
hospital can cause a potentially deadly breakdown in lifesaving
devices such as breathing and dialysis machines. The tracking
devices are also embedded in drug containers and on equipment
used during surgery.
Researchers
discovered that when these microchip signaling devices were
placed within a foot of the lifesaving equipment it caused
electromagnetic glitches in 30% of the tests. Twenty percent of
the cases involved hazardous malfunctions, such as shutting off
the machine and stopping the delivery of medication. These types
of malfunctions would probably have harmed the patient.
The notion
that equipment can be turned off just by being close to a
wireless signaling device raises the question for me of what
impact will these microchips have on humans. As these devices
show up on more and more products and situations, we may be
impacting all of our health and well-being without knowing it’s
even happening. So…it looks like it’s urgent to do research
before these devices spread all over the place.
Are We Robbing Kids By Eliminating Free
Play
Today, kids are in structured activities all day long. That is,
when they are not sitting in front of a computer or playing
computer games. What appears to be missing from their lives is
unstructured free play time. According to Susan Linn, author of
The Case for Make Believe, play is essential to normal
human development. She says “It is the foundation of creativity,
school success, curiosity, learning and the way children create
meaning in their lives.”
Even the
American Academy of Pediatrics has urged a movement back to free
play. They cite many studies that report the lack of play
contributing to high percentages of college students not feeling
that they are in control of their lives. If you do get your kids
into free play, you might also want to mix the age groups so
that the younger kids can play with and learn from the older
kids.

Cancer Cells Committing Suicide
Research published in Chinese Medicine News, Dec 2007
reports that scientists from the German Cancer Research Centre
discovered that the Chinese herb wogonon, a component of huang
qin, caused cancer cells in humans to commit suicide in cultured
leukemia cells without affecting healthy blood cells. Dr. Min
Li-Weber found that wogonin works by increasing the formation of
hydrogen peroxide in tumor cells which leads to cell death.
Scientists consider Li-Weber’s non-human research significant
enough to recommend continued testing of wogonon as a
therapeutic agent for leukemia.
What’s In A Name - Confusing Street Names
Since I’ve be doing professional speaking for 34 years, I’ve
traveled all over the country and to many places in the world.
Well, I want to share with you that I’ve just run across the
most confusing naming of streets that I’ve ever experienced.
This all happened in Broomfield, Colorado, where I was staying
at the Omni Hotel. As I was driving around the area looking for
some restaurants and department stores, I discovered that the
name Interlocken was used in many of the street names. There was
Interlocken Drive,
Interlocken Blvd, Interlocken Parkway, Interlocken Loop and who
knows what else was Interlockened.
One evening
I got so lost looking for my hotel that I had to stop at a
Radisson Hotel to ask the staff how I could get back to my
hotel. It makes me wonder whether the people who thought up this
brilliant naming scheme were drunk, vindictive or just plain
dumb. So… if you’re ever in Broomfield, make sure you take the
Interlocken street sign tour. It will definitely make your day!
Healing Music’s Making Inroads In Hospitals
Music is being used at Beth
Israel
Medical
Center
to help premature infants in intensive care. Since Intensive
Care Units are anything but quiet, the director of the music
therapy program at Beth Israel showed the parents how to use
instruments to mimic heartbeats and womb sounds to comfort
newborns. This allowed the babies to sleep, which is just what
the doctor ordered.
Other
hospitals are using music as a way to ease patients’ pain, lower
blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression and improve coping
abilities, all of which help patients get well faster. It’s even
been shown that music can improve sleep patterns, improve stroke
patients’ memories, and decrease the amount of sedation
medications needed.
One study
published in the journal Critical Care Medicine was done
with patients in the ICU who were on mechanical breathing
machines. One group, which was exposed to Mozart piano sonatas,
experienced marked decreases in stress hormones. There was also
a substantial increase in the production of growth hormones
which resulted in a reduction in blood pressure, lowered heart
rates and less need for medication.
So…to add to
the impact you might receive by using music to aid in healing,
consider using Steven Halpern’s music-plus-subliminal
CDs: Accelerating Self-Healing when you are sick,
and Radiant Health and Well-Being when you are
well and want to stay well.
